Copyediting

The nitty-gritty details

What is Copyediting?

You can think of this as the last step before your manuscript is formatted into a book!

Copyediting examines the sentence-level details of your manuscript. We’re talking really technical here. Each sentence is examined with intense focus looking for continuity issues, but more importantly, grammatical and spelling errors.

What Do I Focus On?

  • Verifying character and setting details for consistency
  • Fact-checking names, dates, locations
  • Correcting typos
  • Verifying spelling and phrase usage
  • Addressing grammar and tense issues
  • Fixing missing and misused punctuation
  • Adjusting numeral vs written-out numbers
  • Applying correct capitalization and italicization
  • Overall, enhancing readability

This is the nuts and bolts of your manuscript, necessary but not necessarily pretty
