Developmental Editing

A deep dive into your manuscript

What is Developmental Editing?

Developmental editing looks at the big picture of your manuscript. Your story’s structural and story-driven elements are the main items I focus on, so I can provide feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of your current draft. I will give you suggestions on how to strengthen all the weak points and share some ideas for approaching the next round of revisions.

What do I Focus On?

  • Strengthening the opening paragraphs
  • Tone and atmosphere
  • Genre beats and conventions
  • Pacing and narrative movement
  • Plot holes
  • Character development and character arcs
  • Point of view consistency
  • World building
  • B- and C-stories and narrative threads
  • What drives the story (character or plot driven)
  • and so much more!

Perfect for all authors, but newer authors might benefit most from the detailed feedback and solution suggestions
